CLC Student Success in Welding, Wine, and Wildlife


Student Conservationist of the Year 
CLC student Tom Strack (Randall) won the 2013 Student Conservationist of the Year award from the Minnesota Chapter of The Wildlife Society. The award was presented at the Wildlife Society's annual conference held in mid February in Bemidji, MN. There were over 200 wildlife professionals and students in attendance at the conference and featured international Swedish conservationist Dr. Fredrik Widemo.

Cultural Thursday Features Vespertine Tribal: Women and Dance

The March 6th Cultural Thursday presented at Central Lakes College will take us on a journey through an eclectic mix of Arabic, Turkish, Egyptian, Rajasthan and Spanish flamenco dance to present day ATS, American Tribal Style®. From the Elemental Studio, located in the Crossing Arts Center, four women from the group, Vespertine Tribal, will inform us of the history of the dances and music that have evolved into their ‘Tribal Fusion’ branch of what some have called, “belly-dance”.

CLC Alumni Nominations - Fill in the Blanks

As Central Lakes College celebrates its 75th anniversary, officials will be recognizing and honoring 75 distinguished alumni. The CLC Foundation is now seeking CLC alumni nominations specifically for the following years: 1942-46, 1953-56, 1961, 1964, 1967, 1968, 1970, 1976, 1987, 1992, 1999, 2000, 2005, 2007, and 2012.

Verse Like Water Presents Charles Simic

Verse Like Water: the visiting poet program of Central Lakes College, in collaboration with The Crossing Arts Alliance, presents former U.S. Poet Laureate Charles Simic at noon on March 5th in the CLC Chalberg Theater. This poetry reading is free and open to the public, and will be followed by a book signing/meet and greet, as well as a workshop at 1:30pm for area writers, artists, and anyone interested in hearing Mr. Simic speak informally about the necessity of poetry in our lives. 

CLC Media Students Strike Gold & Silver


The CLC Media Department students had a great show at the 2014 American Advertising Awards.
Students from the Graphic Design, Photographic Imaging and Videography programs competed against Alexandria Technical College, St Cloud State University and St Cloud Technical and Community College.

Winter Concert "Frozen Fantasia"


The CLC Music Department will present it's 2014 Winter Concert, "Frozen Fantasia" on Tuesday, February 25th at 7:30 in the Chalberg Theater.  

The Woodwind Ensemble, under the direction of Chris Bolstad, and the Brass Ensemble and Jazz Band , under the direction of Steve Anderson will perform a variety of music written for the three types of groups.

February CLC Dean's Report


Connie Frisch, Dean of Allied Health Programs

The Dental Assisting program participated in Give Kids A Smile on February 7th. CLC provided free dental services for children up to age 18. Radiographs, mechanical polishing and fluoride varnish along with a dental exam were free on this day. This is the twelfth year the CLC Dental program has participated in this event.

February is Dental Health month. Our students will be participating in Oral Hygiene instructions to area elementary and daycare facilities. Several of the area schools requests students to come into their classrooms and do a fun interactive activity with students and show them how to brush and floss.

Staples Campus Career Fair


Central Lakes College hosted a career fair for 590 area high school students on Friday, January 31 at the Staples campus. The event showcased more than 20 career programs with hands-on demonstrations, simulators and informational sessions. 

Eight high schools participated: Aitkin, Pillager, Royalton, Little Falls, Pine River-Backus, Staples-Motley, BHS-Area Learning, and Verndale.
