Tara Karels of Nisswa has accepted a full-time Practical
Nursing instructor position at Central Lakes College, Brainerd and Staples,
starting with the fall 2012 semester. Tara
joins CLC’s staff of 24 instructors in the largest career education program at
the community and technical college, which is a candidate for accreditation by
2016 through the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc.
Tara comes to CLC after serving as the obstetrical
education coordinator at Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center from 2009
to 2012. She had been employed there since 1996.
“Tara came through the nursing programs at CLC
and brings a lot of work experience with her to the position both from patient
care and the education department,” said Connie Frisch, CLC director of
nursing.
From 1998 to 2008 Karels was an RN
childbirth educator, and she was an RN staff nurse in family birthplace and
pediatrics in 1996-2003 and 2008-2010. From 1999 to 2001 she was the Brainerd
Medical Center Good Beginnings OB clinic coordinator.
She continues to own and operate
Labor Lessons, presenting International Childbirth Education
Association-approved workshops and trainings as far away as Qatar.
Tara expects to receive her Master’s
of Science in nursing education from Walden University in 2013. She received
her Bachelor of Science from the College of St. Scholastica in 2011 and is a
1994 nursing associate’s degree graduate of CLC.
