Nursing instructor hired

Tara Karels of Nisswa has accepted a full-time Practical Nursing instructor position at Central Lakes College, Brainerd and Staples, starting with the fall 2012 semester. Tara joins CLC’s staff of 24 instructors in the largest career education program at the community and technical college, which is a candidate for accreditation by 2016 through the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc.
Tara comes to CLC after serving as the obstetrical education coordinator at Essentia Health St. Joseph’s Medical Center from 2009 to 2012. She had been employed there since 1996.
“Tara came through the nursing programs at CLC and brings a lot of work experience with her to the position both from patient care and the education department,” said Connie Frisch, CLC director of nursing.
From 1998 to 2008 Karels was an RN childbirth educator, and she was an RN staff nurse in family birthplace and pediatrics in 1996-2003 and 2008-2010. From 1999 to 2001 she was the Brainerd Medical Center Good Beginnings OB clinic coordinator.
She continues to own and operate Labor Lessons, presenting International Childbirth Education Association-approved workshops and trainings as far away as Qatar.
Tara expects to receive her Master’s of Science in nursing education from Walden University in 2013. She received her Bachelor of Science from the College of St. Scholastica in 2011 and is a 1994 nursing associate’s degree graduate of CLC.
