HealthForce Minnesota has awarded Central Lakes College a $24,700 grant for fiscal year 2011. The diversity grant will enable CLC to recruit and train under-represented students and adults within the Mille Lacs community with a focus on the American Indian community. It is aimed at those who are interested in becoming certified nursing assistants or home-health aides. In partnership with organizations in the Mille Lacs area and Brainerd, Central Lakes College will establish job mentoring with goals and accountability. “This is an opportunity to encourage American Indian students to see themselves working in the health care profession,” said Mary Sam, CLC Director of Diversity and Student Affairs and a member of the Onamia School Board. Dennis Olson, Mille Lacs Band Commissioner of Education, said, “Our collaboration with Central Lakes College continues. This new venture to support American Indians in Health Careers is exciting.”
