Raiders in bowl game Saturday

The 15th-ranked Central Lakes College Raider football team plays 19th-ranked Glendale (Az.) Community College in the Valley of the Sun Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. (2 p.m. Central) at Glendale's field in the Arizona suburb. This is the longest-running community college bowl game in the U.S. at 30 years. Glendale played in it last year and has made 16 appearances in 29 years. The Raiders are 10-1 and the Gauchos are 7-3. CLC went 10-0 before dropping the state title game to Rochester Community and Technical College 34-31 on Nov. 7. The Raiders are making their second consecutive appearance in a bowl game and third overall. The football program has been rejuvenated under third-year coach Greg Medeck. "We're excited to be going to Arizona," Medeck said. "Glendale looks big and fast. They are solid all the way around. They have good size and speed. It looks like they have their fundamentals down."CLC is led by quarterback Dominique Corder (1,777 passing yards, 381 rushing yards). The home team is led by QB Kevin Yost whose 217.6 passing yards per game ranks him seventh in the nation, and freshman receiver Demetrius Wilson, who has 733 receiving yards -- eighth in the nation.
