The Central Lakes College Raiders volleyball team downed Hibbing Wed., Sept. 29, in four games at Hibbing. The Cardinals took advantage of the Raiders' relatively weak serves to pull out to an opening 25-19 victory. Then CLC started serving with more intensity and slowing the Hibbing offense. The Raiders came back to win the next three games, 25-18, 26-24, 25-23. The Northern Division teams had been tied for second place. "We played more like a team than Hibbing," said coach Jane Peterson. "There's a difference. "We rely on everybody. It's not clear who our best hitter is. So they have to defend everybody. "When we were on defense, it's clear who the ball is going to on the other side." Division: CLC 6-2. Overall: CLC 13-8. Next: Central Lakes CLC at Ely vs. Vermilion and Gogebic (Mich.) 5 and 7 p.m. Fri., Oct. 1; CLC vs. Mesabi Range at Virginia noon Sat., Oct. 2.
